Afolabi Orekoya, an aide to Ladipupo Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for Ogun State in 2023, clarified that Adebutu would not engage in frivolous claims regarding his indigenship.
This statement was released to journalists on Saturday.
Orekoya’s statement was in response to Arabambi Abayomi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, who criticized Adebutu for allegedly falsely claiming links with the Egbas.
Orekoya condemned Arabambi for politicizing issues for personal gain.

The statement emphasized that Adebutu’s recent celebration of the 92nd remembrance of his great-grandfather, Pa Alimi Adebutu, who lived, died, and was buried in Ijeun Akoni, Odeda Local Government, was undeniable.
Orekoya’s statement questioned why Adebutu’s family history had become controversial and reaffirmed that Adebutu did not fabricate his ties to Ijeun Akoni like others who claim indigenship without proof.
The PDP aide criticized Arabambi’s response as unnecessary and baseless, suggesting that a proper understanding of Adebutu’s account would have prevented Arabambi’s misguided remarks.
