Ondo State Police Command has achieved a significant victory against kidnapping by arresting four suspects tied to the deadly January 26, 2026, attack along Liberty Avenue in Ilu-Abo, Akure North. The operation followed credible intelligence about suspects hiding in a hotel behind Ado Garage, Akure, leading to collaboration between police tactical teams and Amotekun Corps. One victim, John Ofuduwa, died from a close-range gunshot, while Oladeinde Tomilola was abducted but later freed after ransom payment.
Suspects Confess, Victim Confirms Identity
The arrested individuals—Abdullahi Ismaila (20), Babanyara Japi (25), Babuga Abubakar (25), and Adama Usman (15)—were caught with N1,400,000 in cash, believed to be kidnapping proceeds now held as evidence. During initial questioning, they admitted roles in the crime and ties to a syndicate active in Eleyowo, Ilu-Abo, and Ogbese areas. Oladeinde Tomilola positively identified them, praising the command’s swift action.
Broader Syndicate Probe Underway
Investigations continue to uncover the group’s full scope, including potential links to armed robbery and other crimes across Ondo and neighboring regions. Police aim to dismantle the network by tracking remaining members. This arrest builds on earlier community efforts in late January, where locals helped nab a related suspect with criminal charms, sparking the syndicate’s exposure.
Commitment to Safer Ondo
Under CP Adebowale Lawal, the command partners with Amotekun and aligns with IGP Olatunji Disu’s strategy for proactive policing. Officials urge residents to share tips via 0906 058 8958 or @OndoPoliceNg, while victims are asked to assist debriefings. This raid underscores ongoing efforts to eradicate violent crime in the state.
