Ondo Monarch Survives Palace Attack, Suspect Arrested

Palpable tension gripped the Ogbagi Akoko community in Ondo State on Thursday evening after a young man, identified as Tope Adelani, allegedly attacked the Owa of Ogbagi, His Royal Majesty, Oba Victor Olasehinde Adetona.

Sources disclosed that the suspect had earlier visited the palace to seek employment as a driver. However, the monarch reportedly informed him that there was no vacancy at the moment while assuring him that he would be contacted when an opportunity becomes available.

It was gathered that shortly after the interaction, the monarch left the palace for his farm, leaving the suspect within the palace premises.

Upon the monarch’s return, the suspect allegedly trailed him into the palace and forcefully seized his two mobile phones, switching them off in what appeared to be an attempt to prevent him from calling for help.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the situation quickly escalated into a violent confrontation, during which the suspect allegedly attacked the monarch.

In the ensuing struggle, Oba Adetona sustained injuries and was immediately attended to by medical personnel. His condition, as of the time of filing this report, was said to be stable.

A knife was reportedly recovered from the suspect after he was subdued, raising concerns over the motive and possible premeditation of the attack.

The suspect was subsequently apprehended and handed over to law enforcement authorities, who have since commenced investigation into the incident.

The shocking development has thrown the community into anxiety, with residents expressing fears over the safety of the traditional ruler and calling for improved security within palace premises.
