Senator Iyiola Omisore, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has formally announced his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election under the ruling party’s platform. Omisore made the revelation through his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday, with a formal declaration event scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Osun APC Secretariat in Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo.

Iyiola Omisore’s political career includes serving as the deputy governor of Osun State from 1999 to 2003 under the Alliance for Democracy (AD). He later represented Osun East in the Nigerian Senate from 2003 to 2011, where he was chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. Omisore pursued the governorship seat previously in 2014 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and later contested again with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 2018 before joining the APC in 2021. His extensive political experience and various attempts place him among the leading aspirants for the APC’s 2026 governorship ticket.
