Eleweran, Ogun State – April 2nd, 2025 – In a decisive move to address security concerns and safeguard commuters, the Ogun State Police Command has significantly bolstered its presence at the vital Sagamu Interchange. This strategic initiative comes in response to recent apprehensions regarding safety in the area, including unsubstantiated reports circulating on social media concerning an alleged incident on March 31st, 2025.

Despite the absence of any formal police reports regarding the aforementioned incident, Commissioner of Police (CP) Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, has taken proactive steps to reinforce security measures at the four critical intersections of the Sagamu Interchange. This underscores the command’s commitment to preemptive action and ensuring public trust.
A comprehensive security deployment has been implemented, featuring personnel from the Quick Intervention Squad, OP Mesa, and Mobile Police Squadrons 71 and 16. These units have been strategically positioned at key locations, including under the bridge, at the roundabouts, and along both the inward and outward routes of the four intersections. This heightened presence aims to deter criminal activity and provide a visible sense of security for all road users.
In a demonstration of the command’s commitment to technological advancements in crime prevention, CP Ogunlowo conducted a two-hour drone surveillance exercise over the interchange. This aerial reconnaissance revealed the presence of several illegal shanties and temporary structures, as well as unauthorized revenue collection activities carried out by illegal touts.
CP Ogunlowo has issued a firm directive for the immediate cessation of these illegal activities. Furthermore, he has ordered the dismantling and removal of all unauthorized structures, commencing on April 3rd, 2025. All commercial activities taking place under the bridge have also been mandated to cease immediately.
To further refine the security architecture of the interchange, the Commissioner of Police has engaged in constructive dialogue with transport union members. This collaboration aims to redirect commercial traffic towards well-lit and secure areas, minimizing potential vulnerabilities.
While Ogun State maintains a relatively peaceful environment, the police command urges all citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with security measures. Public cooperation is crucial in preventing criminal activities and ensuring the safety of all.
As a precautionary measure, commuters are strongly advised to plan their journeys during daylight hours or early evenings, reducing exposure to potential security risks.
The Ogun State Police Command, in conjunction with sister security agencies and the Ogun State Government, remains steadfast in its dedication to eliminating all forms of insecurity. The command assures the public that all necessary actions will be taken to uphold peace and order throughout the state.
