The Palace of His Royal Majesty, The Ojuromi of Uromi, has issued a strong condemnation of the tragic killing of travelers within his domain, describing the act as barbaric and deeply regrettable. His Majesty expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, particularly those from Kano, and extended sympathies to his own people who have endured years of insecurity, including kidnappings and extrajudicial killings.

Root Causes and Security Failures

The Ojuromi highlighted that this incident underscores the failure of adequate security measures in Uromi and Esanland. Despite repeated calls for intervention from state and federal authorities, insecurity has continued to escalate in the region. Uromi, now a fast-growing city in southern Nigeria, faces increasing challenges due to population growth and criminal activities.

Urgent Security Needs

His Majesty emphasized the inadequacy of the current Uromi Divisional Police Station and called for immediate action:

Appeal to Authorities

The Ojuromi urged the Federal Government to officially adopt Mobol Barracks, donated by Uromi residents, and called on the Edo State Government to facilitate approval for Esan MOPOL Barracks. He stressed that proactive measures are essential to prevent further violence and ensure safety for residents and visitors alike.

Condemnation of Jungle Justice

While condemning jungle justice as unlawful and against the principles of peace, His Majesty reiterated that justice must prevail for recent killings. He called on all relevant authorities to take decisive action to restore security in Uromi and Esanland.
