The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has appointed Chief Superintendent of Corrections Jane Osuji as its pioneering female Public Relations Officer, a milestone in the agency’s history. This move follows the retirement of Deputy Controller Umar Abubakar on November 19, 2025, with the announcement issued by Deputy Controller-General Ado Sale on behalf of Controller-General Sylvester Nwakuche. Osuji, hailing from Owerri North in Imo State, steps into the role with immediate effect to bolster public engagement.
Osuji brings robust credentials, including a BSc in Public Relations and Advertising from Lagos State University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso. She joined the service in 2009 as Assistant Superintendent and advanced through roles like Public Relations Officer for Lagos and FCT Commands, Assistant National PRO, and Press Secretary to three Ministers of Interior from 2015 to 2023. Her training includes the Internal Security Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, underscoring her strategic communication expertise.
NCoS praised Osuji’s “extensive professional experience” in fostering visibility and trust, aligning with ongoing reforms under Nwakuche’s leadership. The appointment signals a commitment to diverse leadership amid efforts to reshape public perception of correctional services toward rehabilitation. Stakeholders view this as a step toward enhanced media relations and transparency in Nigeria’s justice system.
