Mother to Plead Guilty to Manslaughter Over Deaths of Three Young Children

​A mother accused of murdering her three young children is expected to admit to their killings on the grounds of diminished responsibility and infanticide following a harrowing tragedy that left a local community in deep shock.

​Yasmeen Ali, 44, was originally scheduled to stand trial next month facing three counts of murder for the deaths of seven-year-old Fares Bash, three-year-old Joury Bash, and nine-month-old Mohammed Bash. The youngsters suffered fatal stab wounds to their chests and necks during the incident at the family’s home in the Sea Mills area of Bristol in February 2024. An earlier inquest indicated that the eldest child, Fares, also showed possible signs of asphyxia.

​However, during a hearing at Bristol Crown Court, prosecutors announced that new psychiatric evaluations have fundamentally shifted the legal trajectory of the case.

​Anna Vigars KC, prosecuting, told the court that two independent psychiatric reports concluded that the partial defense of diminished responsibility applies to Ali regarding the older children. Furthermore, the charge concerning baby Mohammed is expected to be formally altered to infanticide, reflecting his age at the time of the tragedy.

​The Crown Prosecution Service has consulted closely with the children’s father, Alfil Bash, confirming that the anticipated pleas to the lesser offenses will be accepted.

​Andrew Langdon KC, defending, indicated he would confer with Ali ahead of the next court appearance, where the changed pleas are formally expected to be entered. Ali, of no fixed address, remains detained in a secure psychiatric hospital and was excused from attending Friday’s procedural session.

​Mr Justice Linden has listed the final hearing for October 23, at which point the legal proceedings are expected to reach a conclusion.
