Travelers Decry 150% Hike in MMA2 Parking Fees

​Air travelers and airport users have expressed deep-seated frustration following a massive spike in parking tariffs at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) in Lagos. The new pricing structure, implemented by the terminal operator, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), has seen some fees leap by over 150%, adding a fresh layer of financial strain to passengers already navigating record-high airfares.

​The revised tariff, which officially took effect on April 1, 2026, followed a brief two-week notice period. Under the new regime, the cost of simply accessing the facility has become a point of contention, with the “grace period” effectively non-existent for those dropping off or picking up loved ones.

​Breakdown of the New Costs

​According to the updated price list, sedan cars are now charged N3,500 for the first hour, while Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) attract a N4,000 fee for the same duration. The most staggering increase, however, is reserved for long-term users. Overnight parking, which previously cost N6,000, has surged to N50,000—a more than sevenfold increase.

​For larger vehicles, the costs are even more prohibitive, with buses billed at N20,000 for the first hour. Furthermore, passengers who lose or damage their parking tickets now face a stiff penalty of N25,000.

​The hike triggered an avalanche of criticism on social media over the weekend. Many users pointed out that the cost of parking for a single night now rivals or exceeds the price of a round-trip ride-hailing service from most parts of Lagos.

​One X user, @n6oflife6, noted the shift in value, stating, “It’s now cheaper to use Uber from your house to the airport and back than to park there for one night. They will lose in the long run.” Others labeled the move as “sheer greed,” questioning why a drop-off lasting less than ten minutes should command such a premium.

​Mr. Aderemi, a frequent traveler at the terminal, told our correspondent that the private sector is exacerbating the economic hardship faced by Nigerians. “The same passengers already faced with high travel fares now have to pay more than double to park. This is frustrating and difficult to understand,” he lamented.

​Efforts to reach Bi-Courtney’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ajoke Olayinka-Adewuyi, for a comment on the rationale behind the increment were unsuccessful. As of press time, calls and text messages to her office remained unreturned.

​Industry observers suggest the hike may be linked to rising operational costs and maintenance of the multi-level car park facility. However, without official clarification, travelers remain skeptical of the timing, noting that another adjustment had reportedly occurred just months prior.
