Jos, Plateau State – Troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have arrested five foreign nationals in Plateau State, an operation that underscores the military’s renewed commitment to tackling insecurity across the country. The arrests were confirmed by Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, who stated that the individuals include three foreign Fulani migrants and two Chadians.

The five suspects were apprehended between May 15 and 20, 2025, in Jos North Local Government Area. While General Kangye did not specify the exact offenses committed, he noted that the foreigners claimed to be working with an international company. They have since been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.
This development comes as Plateau State continues to grapple with persistent security challenges, including communal clashes, banditry, and kidnappings. The military’s heightened activities are part of a broader strategy to restore peace and stability to troubled regions.
General Kangye reiterated that the Armed Forces, under the leadership of General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, remain “determined, poised, and not resting on their oars” in their resolve to defeat terrorism, banditry, and other criminalities. General Musa, appointed Chief of Defence Staff in June 2023, has emphasized a “People Centric” approach to military operations, focusing on intelligence gathering, troop welfare, and inter-agency collaboration.
Recent reports highlight the ongoing volatility in Plateau, with tragic incidents claiming numerous lives in recent months. The state government, led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, and federal authorities have intensified efforts to address the root causes of the conflicts and bring perpetrators to justice. The military’s apprehension of foreign elements suggests a focus on external actors contributing to the unrest.
Beyond these arrests, General Kangye also highlighted other successes by the AFN, including the apprehension of 28 other terrorists, logistics suppliers, and criminal elements, as well as the rescue of 47 hostages within the same period. Troops of Operation DELTA SAFE also foiled oil theft estimated at over N533 million.
The military’s message is clear: there will be no negotiation on its commitment to restoring peace, while also prioritizing the welfare of its troops. The ongoing operations signal a resolute effort to secure all Nigerians and bring an end to the prevailing insecurity.
