ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A 62-year-old Clearwater man, Bobby McAffee, who is HIV-positive, has been arrested and charged with sexual battery of an 8-year-old boy. In a tragic development, authorities confirm the child victim has also tested positive for HIV.
McAffee was taken into custody on Friday, May 30, following a nearly year-long investigation by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Crimes Against Children Unit. The initial report of the sexual battery, which allegedly occurred in St. Petersburg the victim was 8 years old, was made on August 23, 2024.
According to sheriff’s officials, detectives interviewed McAffee, and he admitted to having sexual contact with the victim. He also confessed to being HIV-positive. Further tests revealed the child victim recently tested positive for the virus.
McAffee is charged with one count of sexual battery of a child less than 12 years old. He is currently being held at the Pinellas County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
Due to Florida Statute 119.071, no further information identifying the victim will be released.
In Florida, knowingly transmitting HIV through sexual intercourse without disclosure is a third-degree felony, punishable by up to five years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.
Sexual battery involving a minor carries severe penalties, and the additional factor of HIV transmission could lead to further legal consequences.The investigation into this deeply disturbing case is ongoing.
