The White House has reiterated the United States government’s position that there are only two genders, male and female, under President Donald Trump’s administration.
The policy reaffirmation was made in a post on its official X account on Saturday, restating an executive order signed by Trump on January 20, 2025, ValidViewNetwork reports.
THE STATEMENT
“It is the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders: male & female,” the White House posted.
The statement reinforces Trump’s longstanding position on gender identity and his administration’s policy of recognising biological sex as either male or female in federal government operations.
THE EXECUTIVE ORDER
Trump formalised the position through an executive order titled “Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government.”
Under Section Two of the order, the President declared that “it is the policy of the United States to recognise two sexes, male and female.”
The order further defined sex as an individual’s “immutable biological classification as either male or female,” stating that sex was not synonymous with gender identity.
It also directed federal agencies to adopt the definitions in their interpretation and application of federal laws and government policies.
WHY IT MATTERS
The White House’s statement is a reminder that the culture wars that defined Trump’s first term have not abated.
For supporters, the policy is a defence of biological reality and a rejection of what they see as gender ideology.
For critics, it is an attack on the rights and dignity of transgender Americans.

The debate is not new. But the White House’s decision to restate the policy on a Saturday, in a single post, suggests that the administration wants to keep the issue alive. It is a signal to its base.
And it is a warning to its opponents. The policy remains in place. The debate continues. ValidViewNetwork reports.
