President Joseph Boakai of Liberia recently reiterated Nigeria’s crucial support during Liberia’s civil war from 1990 to early 2003, acknowledging Nigeria’s role as a big brother in aiding Liberia during its tumultuous times.
Boakai emphasized the need for stronger bilateral relations between the two countries.
During a meeting in Monrovia, Boakai commended Nigeria’s peace-building efforts and socio-economic advancements across Africa, particularly during Liberia’s civil unrest.
He expressed gratitude for Nigeria’s role in restoring peace through collaborative efforts with ECOMOG, highlighting Nigeria’s contributions to unity, economic growth, and democratic stability on the continent.

Represented by Vice President Jeremiah Koung, Boakai affirmed Liberia’s willingness to collaborate with Nigeria for economic growth and stronger ties.
Meanwhile, Oba Alexander MacGregor of Orile-Ilawo, Abeokuta, led a delegation to Liberia, fostering economic development discussions centered on agriculture, commerce, and industrialization.
The delegation also visited the Yasmin Foundation, a non-profit organization led by Tan Tan Boakai, the son of Liberia’s president. Oba MacGregor commended the foundation’s philanthropic efforts and encouraged its beneficiaries to strive for excellence.
In a reciprocal gesture, Madam Katumu Boakai expressed gratitude for the visit, affirming her commitment to advocating for children’s and women’s rights in Liberia.
The delegation further engaged with Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow and Culture Ambassador Queen Juli Endee, exploring Liberia’s rich cultural heritage and diplomatic ties.
