An 18-year-old inmate, Clément L., allegedly orchestrated a network of kidnapping plots from his prison cell using two mobile phones and the alias “Lester Z” on Snapchat, targeting the Real Madrid superstar, a Chinese businessman, rappers, and jewellers in a scheme that has sent shockwaves through France.
A Plot That Shocked France
French authorities have uncovered an alleged kidnapping plot targeting some of the country’s wealthiest and most famous individuals, with Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappé at the top of the list.
An 18-year-old inmate, identified as Clément L., has been charged as the alleged mastermind of a criminal network that targeted 26 wealthy individuals, including footballers, rappers, wealthy businessmen, and jewellers.
The teenager, who was already in pre-trial detention for pimping and armed robbery, was allegedly directing the entire operation from his prison cell.
The “Lester Z” Network
According to French newspaper Le Parisien, prison guards seized two mobile phones from the teenager’s cell.
The phones revealed a “highly revealing” list containing the names and addresses of 26 potential targets.
Among them was Mbappé, alongside a rapper, a Chinese businessman, jewellers and a Turkish meat trader.
Despite being behind bars, Clément L. allegedly continued issuing instructions through Snapchat under the alias “Lester Z” .
The alleged crimes spanned several locations across France, including Neuilly-sur-Seine, Saint-Brice-sous-Forêt, and Santenay.
A Troubling Pattern of Criminality
The teenager, who had dropped out of school while studying for a vocational qualification in cooking, had previously been jailed for armed robbery after being identified as one of two men involved in an attack on a watchmaker in Paris.
He was also on pre-trial detention for pimping and organised robbery.
When questioned by investigators, Clément L. denied being the mastermind and requested to be released from solitary confinement, expressing a desire to resume his studies and become a chef.
His request was rejected.
The Prosecutor’s Case
Speaking before the investigating chamber in Versailles on Wednesday, September 2, the public prosecutor made a pointed case for keeping the suspect in solitary confinement:
“This young man was already in prison for serious offences, and now he’s involved in a new case concerning a renowned rapper and footballer. Only solitary confinement can make him understand things, given that he leads a disorganised and criminal life” .
Mbappé Unfazed
Despite the chilling plot against him, Mbappé, 27, has been in spectacular form for Real Madrid this season.
The French captain has scored four goals across three La Liga matches and claimed the Pichichi award in back-to-back seasons.
