Kuwait Court Jails 2 Nigerians 7 Years For Armed Robbery

​A Kuwaiti court has handed down a seven-year prison sentence to two Nigerian nationals following a brazen armed robbery at a money exchange office located in the southern district of Mahboula.

​The landmark conviction concludes a swift investigation by the Kuwaiti General Department of Criminal Investigation (GDCI), an arm of the nation’s police force, which initially apprehended the suspects within 24 hours of the heist.

​According to court proceedings and security briefings released by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior, the duo meticulously planned the operation. Investigators revealed that the gang staked out multiple financial service locations from nearby rooftops, tracking peak operational hours and customer volume to minimize risk. Furthermore, the perpetrators used stolen vehicle license plates to evade electronic surveillance and conceal their identities.

​During the execution of the crime, CCTV footage captured one of the suspects wearing a balaclava, entering the Mahboula-based exchange facility, and brandishing a firearm at an employee. The robbers successfully made off with approximately 4,600 Kuwaiti Dinars (valued at roughly $14,900).

​Law enforcement tracking eventually led to a breakthrough when detectives captured the first suspect in Mahboula. He reportedly confessed to surveying the establishment and signaling his partner when the premises were clear of customers. The second accomplice was subsequently tracked down and arrested in the Al-Qurain Market area.

​During a search of the second suspect’s residence, police recovered a portion of the stolen cash alongside a quantity of the illicit synthetic drug crystal methamphetamine (locally referred to as Shabu).

​Following the conclusion of the trial, the court ordered that the convicts serve their seven-year terms under strict penal conditions prior to expected deportation upon the completion of their sentences. Legal analysts note that the case underscores the hardline stance taken by Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations against cross-border organized crime and violent offenses.
