A residential building in Ilorin, Kwara State, was engulfed in a fire on Saturday morning, resulting in injuries to an 86-year-old man. Hassan Adekunle, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed the incident, stating that the fire broke out around noon when the elderly man, who was cooking, briefly left the kitchen and returned to find the fire.
The fire affected one room in the 12-room building located on Afolayan Street in the state capital, causing damage to personal belongings and property.
Firefighters promptly responded to the scene, containing the fire and preventing further spread to adjacent buildings.
According to Adekunle, the injured man sustained burns to his head and was immediately transported to the nearest hospital for treatment.

He emphasized the importance of fire safety awareness and urged residents to take necessary precautions to prevent such incidents.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, expressed sympathy for the victim’s injuries and stressed the need for vigilance in fire prevention measures.
In a related incident reported by Valid View Network, a fire outbreak occurred at a 40-room flat in Ile Muse compound, off Emir’s Road in Ilorin, Kwara State, caused by an unextinguished charcoal fire used for cooking.
The fire engulfed nine rooms in the building early on Friday morning, attributed to negligence in properly extinguishing the cooking fire.
