Kebbi Govt Sponsors 300 Couples in Third Mass Wedding Initiative

​The Kebbi State Government has finalized arrangements for its third edition of the mass wedding initiative, an ambitious social support program aimed at facilitating marriages for 300 couples across the state.

​Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, Chairman of the Mass Wedding Committee, confirmed the development on Tuesday, July 14, in Birnin Kebbi. The initiative, which is a collaboration between the state government and the NANAS Foundation—led by the wife of the Governor—is designed to support eligible indigenes across all 21 local government areas and 225 wards.

​Under the terms of the program, the state government will provide a dowry of N250,000 for each groom. To ensure the long-term sustainability of these unions, officials have implemented a rigorous vetting process. Local government committees have been tasked with verifying that each groom possesses a verifiable and reliable source of income.

​Furthermore, the government has mandated comprehensive medical screenings for all prospective couples. This measure is intended to verify compatibility and overall health status, aligning the program with both public health standards and Islamic matrimonial requirements.

​To ease the financial burden of starting a new household, the NANAS Foundation will supply each couple with essential household items, including beds, mattresses, and food supplies.

​The upcoming ceremony, scheduled to be held in Birnin Kebbi, will be officiated by Islamic clerics and attended by Governor Nasir Idris alongside other state dignitaries. Beyond the wedding day, the government has established a dedicated monitoring committee tasked with tracking the welfare of the beneficiaries and ensuring that the provided support contributes effectively to the stability of the new households.

​This edition marks the third time the current administration has undertaken the initiative, highlighting a sustained commitment to addressing social and economic barriers to marriage within the state.
