KC Luxury Drags NDLEA to Court, Demands ₦190m Over Detention

​The legal showdown between the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and popular Lagos socialite Afolabi Kazeem Michael, widely known as KC Luxury, has escalated sharply with a ₦190 million fundamental rights enforcement suit filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

​Kazeem, a prominent businessman and luxury lifestyle figure, is challenging his prolonged detention without formal arraignment, claiming aggressive state overreach following his arrest on August 13, 2026, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. Operatives intercepted him as he prepared to board a business-class flight to Paris, France, a move the anti-narcotics agency characterized as a desperate attempt to flee the country.

​The high-stakes arrest directly followed the NDLEA’s interception of a massive 184.5-kilogram cocaine consignment at a Lagos courier facility—an operation the agency valued at billions of naira and tied to an international trafficking network. Investigators subsequently raided his upscale residence in Banana Island, Lagos, recovering exotic vehicles, luxury jewelry, and foreign currencies, and branding him a primary arrowhead of the cartel.

​However, the defense has launched a fierce counter-offensive. In an affidavit deposed by his father, Eric Afolabi, the legal team—led by A. Labi-Lawal (SAN)—asserts that the socialite has been held incommunicado beyond statutory limits without being informed of any specific criminal charge. The suit alleges that operatives searched his home without a valid warrant and recovered nothing incriminating. Furthermore, the defense is seeking ₦100 million specifically over the unauthorized circulation of his custody photographs and videos, ₦50 million for unlawful arrest, and ₦40 million for an alleged privacy violation, alongside an urgent plea for bail on liberal terms due to acute asthma health concerns.

​Presiding Justice Friday Ogazi declined an immediate ex parte release order, instead directing the anti-drug agency to produce Kazeem physically in court and respond to the substantive suit.

​The matter has been adjourned to September 9, 2026, as judicial scrutiny intensifies over the boundaries of administrative detention and suspects’ constitutional rights.
