Kano Police Nab Two Over Tricycle Robberies

​The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate specializing in luring commercial tricycle operators, administering intoxicating substances to them, and dispossessing them of their vehicles at gunpoint.

​The Arrest and Operation

​The suspects have been identified as Usman Ashiru (26) and Abukabar Ali (28), both residents of the Rijiyar Lemo quarters in Kano. According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, the pair were cornered following an intelligence-led operation triggered by a distress call from a community member.

​On July 21, 2026, at approximately 11:30 PM, the Dala Police Division received a report that a 22-year-old tricycle rider, Abdulrahman Atula from Kawo Hotoro, had been lured by unknown individuals. The perpetrators administered a noxious drug to the victim before robbing him of his tricycle.

​Promptly mobilizing to the scene, the Divisional Police Officer led a patrol team that successfully apprehended the suspects and recovered the stolen vehicle with the help of local tips. The victim was immediately rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where he is reported to be responding to treatment.

​Broader Syndicate Uncovered

​During preliminary interrogations, police discovered that the suspects’ criminal network extends far beyond a single incident. No fewer than 10 other commercial tricycle operators who had previously fallen victim to identical attacks across the Dorayi and Bachirawa quarters successfully identified Ashiru and Ali as the perpetrators behind their ordeals.

​The police command has commended the vigilance of the local community and the cooperation of good Samaritans whose timely alerts facilitated the breakthrough. Authorities confirmed that a discreet investigation is underway to track down remaining accomplices, after which the suspects will be formally charged to court.
