The Kano State Police Command arrested three key suspects in the shocking murder of a 35-year-old housewife, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children, including an infant, at their home in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters on January 17, 2026. Acting on directives from Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun, operatives conducted a nighttime sting operation from 10pm on January 17 to 4am on January 18, leading to the rapid apprehensions under Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori’s supervision. The attack followed a distress call around 12:10pm that day; victims were rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital but pronounced dead.
Suspect Details and Confession
Umar Auwalu, 23, from Sabuwar Gandu Quarters and the deceased’s nephew, leads the syndicate and has confessed to the crime. His accomplices include Isyaku Yakubu, alias ‘Chebe’, 40, from Sagagi Quarters, and Yakubu Abdulaziz, alias ‘Wawo’, 21, from Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters. Auwalu admitted the group carried out other recent atrocities, such as killing and burning two housewives, Hauwa’u Yakubu and Zahra’u Aliyu, in Tudun Yola Quarters in November 2025.

Evidence Recovered
Police seized four blood-stained clothes, the victim’s two mobile phones, a cutlass, a club (gora), stolen cash, and other dangerous weapons from the suspects. These items link directly to the Dorayi crime scene, where attackers invaded the home of Haruna Bashir, slaughtering the family and dumping an infant in a well. Investigators, led by ACP Wada Jarma of the CID, continue probing motives and full syndicate involvement.

Community Reaction and Police Assurance
Eyewitnesses described panic as a neighbor discovered the bloodied bodies, with residents like Isiyaka Yakubu noting unprecedented fear in Dorayi Chiranchi and nearby areas. The community mourns deeply, unable to sleep amid rising insecurity. Police spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa commended operatives and public support, vowing swift justice.
