Eight political parties convened in Kaduna on Thursday, gearing up for the 2027 general elections with the aim of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Organized by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the summit, themed ‘Solid political party structure critical to the sustainability of the democratic process,’ took place at the Arewa House in Kaduna.

Among the participating political parties were the New Nigeria People’s Party, The People’s Redemption Party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, the Social Democratic Party, the KOWA Party, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), and the Coalition of United Political Parties.

Lawal Nalado, the Chairman of the summit and also of IPAC, highlighted the significant challenges faced by Nigerians, labeling them as “unbearable hardship.”

He clarified that the summit aimed at addressing these national issues and devising strategies for progress.

Nalado refuted speculations suggesting the summit was about forming a merger or coalition among parties, asserting the need for grassroots mobilization and political enlightenment to uplift society’s social and economic status.

Falalu Bello, the National Chairman of PRP, emphasized the importance of effective mobilization of voters by opposition parties, emphasizing that credible candidates alone were insufficient for electoral victory.

He identified inadequate resources, lack of internal democracy, transparency decay, and ruling party interference as critical issues affecting opposition parties.

Ahmed Tujjani, chairman of ADC and IPAC Kaduna State, explained that the summit aimed to address socio-economic and political challenges faced by parties, focusing on realistic solutions.

He clarified that the gathering was not about forming a merger or coalition for the 2027 elections but aimed to strategize and involve citizens in the political process to maintain their loyalty ahead of the upcoming polls.
