Ex-FCT Minister,Jumoke Akinjide Quits PDP

​In a significant shake-up for the political landscape of Oyo State, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide, the former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

​Akinjide, a stalwart of the party for over two decades, announced her departure in a formal letter addressed to the Ward 1 Chairman of the PDP in Ona-Ara Local Government Area on Monday. In the correspondence, she described the move as a “difficult decision” reached after a prolonged period of personal reflection.

​”This decision was not taken lightly, given the fact that I have been a member of the party since 2001,” the letter stated. Akinjide expressed gratitude for the relationships built and the platforms provided during her tenure, ultimately wishing the party success in its future endeavors.

​The resignation was confirmed by her close associate, Alhaji Kehinde Olaosebikan, a former chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area.

​A Storied Career

​Akinjide’s exit marks the end of an era for the PDP in the Pacesetter State. Her political resume is extensive:

• ​Ministerial Service: She served as the Minister of State for the FCT from 2011 to 2015 under President Goodluck Jonathan.
• ​Police Affairs: She briefly held the position of Supervising Minister for Police Affairs in 2014.
• ​Presidential Aide: Between 2001 and 2003, she served as Special Assistant to the President on FCT Matters and later oversaw G77 Matters and Nigerians in the Diaspora.

​While the former minister has not yet signaled her next political move, her departure from a party she helped nurture for 23 years is expected to trigger a realignment within the Oyo State political corridor.
