ABEOKUTA – Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has officially entered the 2027 Ogun State governorship race, declaring herself the most competent candidate to steer the Gateway State into its next developmental phase.
The former Senator and daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo made this declaration on Friday during a high-profile interactive session with the editorial board of Penpushing Media at its corporate headquarters in the Leme axis of Abeokuta.
Running on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Obasanjo’s entry into the race significantly alters the political landscape of Ogun State. She expressed unwavering confidence in her ability to provide the leadership required for the next political dispensation, citing her previous experience as a former Commissioner and Senator as the foundation for her “preparedness.”
A Historic Ambition
During the visit, the Chairman of the Editorial Board, Funke Fadugba, lauded Obasanjo’s resolve, noting that her victory would be a watershed moment for Nigerian democracy.
”I must commend your zeal and determination,” Fadugba stated. “Working round the clock to become the first elected female governor in Ogun State and Nigeria is a courageous pursuit that adds immense value to the political narrative of our nation.”
Echoing these sentiments, Eddy Aina, a veteran journalist and former Director of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), praised the Senator for her “political audacity.” He noted that her breakthrough would serve as a catalyst for women across the country to seek the highest executive offices in their respective states.
Media as a Pillar of Democracy
Obasanjo’s visit also highlighted the intersection of governance and media responsibility. The Senator acknowledged the contributions of Penpushing Media in sanitizing the journalism profession. The organization, which maintains affiliations with the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) and the International Press Institute (IPI), has trained over 80 interns to date—a feat Obasanjo described as a vital service to the nation.
In response, the board assured that the outlet would maintain its strict editorial policy of reporting truth and combating the “menace of fake news” as the 2027 election cycle approaches.
The founder of Penpushing Media, Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, in his welcome address chronicled the journey of Penpushing Media, asserting its pioneering status as the first online newspaper in Abeokuta, the town where journalism started in Nigeria.
He emphasised that the organisation remains committed to the journalistic ideology of adding value to journalism worldwide.
The media icon recalled that the journey of Penpushing Media started on July 19, 2016 on a social media platform with 256 members at inception across the globe.
“The founder added that Penpushing Media does not limit its operations to news writing, but in same vein, injected corporate social responsibility to its operations by providing succor for the needy”
“Kayode-Adedeji added that as it progresses, a lecture, which has become a regular project aimed at adding value to the noble profession of journalism, was introduced.
He added that the organization which has become a famous global news dissemination platform, got its certificate of registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on June 1, 2017, with the headquarters in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.
Emphasising one of the cardinal objectives of Penpushing, Kayode Adedeji said : ”Penpushing is indeed set to correct and tackle the menace of fake news which is almost becoming a daily occurrence in the world, with its greater negative impact in our clime, particularly owing to the myriad of online communication channels”.
He said the organisation is poised to revive journalism and be a credible platform for genuine news for readers worldwide. In line with our mission, we shall consciously want to err on the side of caution to authenticate news for dissemination on Penpushing platform’, he added.
Kayode-Adedeji said the organisation is proudly a member of notable corporate organisations, including the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and the International Press Institute (IPI), with its headquarters in Switzerland.
