On March 10, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inaugurated the planning committee for the National Youth Conference at the State House in Abuja. This initiative aims to engage Nigerian youths in addressing critical issues affecting their future, as highlighted by Tinubu during the ceremony.
The committee, chaired by Mr. Olubunmi Olusanya, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Development, comprises representatives from various sectors, including federal ministries, civil society organizations, and international bodies like the World Bank. The President emphasized the importance of youth participation in governance and urged committee members to prioritize discussions on technology and agriculture to enhance food sovereignty in Nigeria.
In his remarks, Tinubu encouraged the youths to voice their concerns and suggestions openly, stating, โLook at me in the face, tell me whatever you think is wrong… We will try to implement all of it as long as it is for the prosperity of this countryโ.ย The conference is set to span 30 days, featuring virtual consultations and regional meetings before culminating in a week-long gathering in Abuja.
Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande expressed gratitude for the opportunity given to youths and highlighted that this conference would serve as a platform for meaningful engagement in national development.
