The traditional ‘Oro’ festival, a significant event in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has been scheduled for May 16, 2024, both in the daytime and nighttime.
This information was conveyed in a letter issued by the Ayangburen Palace and signed by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, dated April 16, 2024.
The letter, addressed to the Medical Director of the Ikorodu General Hospital, notified about the upcoming festival and advised all females to stay indoors during the festival.
It emphasized adherence to traditional customs, as the organization falls within the Oro traditional jurisdictions.
The Oro festival is a notable celebration in Yoruba tradition, primarily observed by male descendants.

It involves a daytime procession and distinct sounds across the community. Females are traditionally prohibited from participating in the festival’s ritual rites.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotosho, and the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.
Similarly, attempts to seek clarification from the Ikorodu Palace were unsuccessful, as calls were unanswered.
