Ibadan, Oyo State – In a significant move aimed at bolstering agricultural expertise and productivity in the southwestern region, the Oyo State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Government, yesterday unveiled a new Regional Training Centre for Farmers in Ibadan.
The commissioning ceremony marked the official opening of the South West Regional Training Centre and Liaison Office of the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI). Speaking at the event, the Oyo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, reiterated the state’s unwavering commitment to agricultural advancement through strategic partnerships. He emphasized that the establishment of the ARMTI center aligns with ongoing state efforts to ensure food security for its populace.
Barrister Olaleye highlighted the proactive stance of the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration in prioritizing agricultural development via robust capacity-building initiatives. He noted that the Ministry of Agriculture has already trained over 3,000 farmers in contemporary agricultural practices, resulting in a notable increase in productivity and sustainability within the sector. The Commissioner reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting farmers and fostering a thriving agricultural landscape.
Expressing gratitude to the Federal Government and other stakeholders for selecting Oyo State as the regional headquarters for the South West ARMTI program, Barrister Olaleye described the newly inaugurated center as a crucial hub for agricultural training and essential support services for farmers across the region.
In his address, the Executive Director/CEO of ARMTI, Dr. Olufemi Oladunni, commended Governor Makinde for his swift approval and unwavering support towards the establishment of the regional office. He elaborated on ARMTI’s mandate as an agency under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, emphasizing its role in equipping farmers nationwide with modern agricultural techniques to enhance their capabilities and overall agricultural output.
