Professor Kayode Gbekeloluwa Bamgbose (KGB), a Professor of Analytical/Environmental Chemistry from the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology (EMT), College of Environmental Resources Management (COLERM), is set to deliver the 84th Inaugural Lecture of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
The Lecture titled, “In the Footprints of the Environment, Every Contact Leaves a Trace on our Common Future,” is slated to take place at the Professor Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building of the University on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
Born on 19th February 1957 into the family of Mr. Ayorinde Bamgbose now Emeritus Prof. Ayo Bamgbose and Late Ayinke Oladunni of blessed memory in Ibadan, Oyo State, KGB as he is fondly called had his early education at Luba Primary School after which he proceeded to Government College Ibadan from 1970-1974 for his secondary school education. He got admitted into the University of Ibadan in 1976 and graduated in 1979 with a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Chemistry. Thereafter, he had his NYSC at Government Girls Secondary School, Talata Mafara, Sokoto State till 1980. In 1981, he completed a Master’s degree in Analytical chemistry after which he worked briefly as a classroom teacher till 1983 at Ijebu-Ode Muslim College, Ijebu Ode before going for his PhD which he completed in February 1988.
Professor Kayode Gbekeloluwa Bamgbose, a former Zonal coordinator ASUU Ibadan Zone (2004-2009) and former Chairman ASUU-UNAAB 1(1997-2001) has traversed other tertiary institutions leaving traces of his indelible impact , ValidViewNetwork reports.
KGB started his academic journey as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan from 1983 to 1988. On completion of his PhD he joined the services of the Lagos State University in April, 1988 where despite just spending a few months till September 1988, he left his indelible traces such that his services were needed at the same University more than a decade thereafter.
The Comrade Professor was a lecturer at the Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University from 1988-1991 where he also left his indelible traces which took him back there on Sabbatical leave more than a decade thereafter. He had been on sabbatical leave at the Olabisi Onabanjo University in 2003, University of Lagos in 2010 and Federal University of Technology Akure in 2017.
Prof. Kayode Gbekeloluwa Bamgbose joined the services of FUNAAB as a lecturer I in November, 1991 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Analytical/Environmental Chemistry in 2008.
The Inaugural Lecture, a reflection of his multidimensional knowledge, therefore promises to be highy educative, interactive and thought-provoking towards stimulating a renewed intrerest in the protection of our common future.
In accordance with the University’s tradition, all guests are expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m.
The Vice-Chancellor of the foremost University, Professor Babatunde Kehinde would preside as the Chief Host, accompanied by other Principal Officers, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, Staff, Students and Distinguished guests.
