AKURE – The Ondo State Police Command has entered a new leadership era following the official assumption of duty by CP Felix Ohagwu as the 47th Commissioner of Police in the state.
CP Ohagwu takes over the mantle of leadership from his predecessor, CP Adebowale Lawal. The change of guard follows a recent strategic deployment ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at strengthening internal security architectures and injecting fresh operational strategies across various state commands.
A Legacy of Strategic Leadership
Bringing over three decades of active, decorated service to the Sunshine State, CP Ohagwu arrives with an extensive portfolio spanning intelligence-led policing, public safety administration, and complex operational coordination. Throughout his career, he has held critical administrative, investigative, and operational roles across Nigeria, earning a reputation for strict discipline and proactive crime prevention.
In his inaugural address to officers and stakeholders at the Command Headquarters in Akure, the new police chief expressed gratitude to IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu for the opportunity to serve. He also commended the outgoing Commissioner, CP Lawal, for his commitment to keeping Ondo safe during his tenure.

Zero Tolerance for Corruption and Rights Violations
Setting a clear tone for his administration, CP Ohagwu pledged that transparency, accountability, and absolute professionalism would be the benchmarks of his leadership. He issued a stern warning regarding ethical conduct, noting that his administration would champion a corruption-free system that prioritizes civil liberties.
”Under my watch, the Command will strictly uphold human rights and ethical conduct,” Ohagwu stated. “We will be guided entirely by the principles of integrity and high-quality service delivery, aligning our operations with global best practices in modern policing.”
Strengthening the Security Architecture
Recognizing the upcoming political calendar and localized security needs within the state’s 18 Local Government Areas, the new CP assured residents that the command would aggressively confront criminal elements. He promised to reinforce existing security protocols through robust intelligence gathering and enhanced joint operations with sister security agencies.
He emphasized, however, that policing is a shared responsibility, calling on the public to actively participate in safeguarding their communities.
Public Cooperation and Channels
To foster a closer relationship with the public, the command urged residents to provide timely and credible information to help nip criminal activities in the bud before they manifest.
