The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship aspirant, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, may face possible disqualification concerns ahead of the 2027 governorship election following a Freedom of Information suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abeokuta.
In the suit marked FHC/CS/AB/87/2026, Professor Awolola Awofala Awoniyi is seeking the release of documents and records relating to Senator Adeola from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and The Guardian.
The plaintiff is requesting details concerning the senator’s employment history with The Guardian Newspaper, particularly to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his alleged dismissal or exit from the organisation.
The suit also seeks to compare records submitted by Senator Adeola to INEC with documents linked to his service history in Lagos, especially in Alimosho and Lagos West, amid questions surrounding his citizenship and indigene status in both Lagos and Ogun states.
At the resumed hearing on Tuesday, counsel representing the APC, from the chambers of Barrister A.A. Ibrahim (SAN), filed a counter-affidavit deposed to by one Mr. Abdullahi.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter to allow proper service of court documents on Senator Adeola and the management of The Guardian Newspaper.
