FCT Police Nab ‘Viral’ Bandits in Abuja Dawn Raid

​ABUJA — In a swift, intelligence-driven operation, operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested three suspected kidnappers who recently sparked widespread anxiety online after a viral video showed them boldly flaunting high-grade weaponry.

​The suspects—identified as Umar Babangida, 25; Adamu Yeti, 22; and Yahaya Idris, 24—are all residents of Rijana in Kaduna State. They were tracked down and apprehended at their hideout in Runji Village, located within the Zuba axis of the nation’s capital.

​The breakthrough followed the circulation of a disturbing video across various social media platforms. In the footage, the trio could be seen dressed in full military camouflage, confidently brandishing AK-47 assault rifles, ammunition, and walkie-talkies.

​Responding to the development, the newly deployed FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, immediately ordered the command’s digital forensics and cybercrime units to analyze the footage, trace its source, and launch an aggressive manhunt.

​A Coordinated Dawn Raid

​Leveraging actionable digital intelligence and localized surveillance, police tactical teams pinpointed the exact location of the suspects. At approximately 3:22 AM on May 25, operatives executed a coordinated dawn raid on the Runji Village safehouse, catching the suspects completely off guard and neutralizing any opportunity for armed resistance.

​All three individuals were taken into custody without casualties.

​A senior police source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, noted that the suspects mistakenly believed their digital posturing made them untouchable.

​”They filmed themselves with sophisticated weapons thinking they could intimidate the public and evade law enforcement. They underestimated the command’s advanced tracking capabilities,” the source said.
