AKURE, NIGERIA — Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Chief Segun Odusanya as the state’s new Head of Public Service. The appointment is scheduled to take effect tomorrow, June 6, 2026.
Chief Odusanya succeeds Mr. Bayo Philips, who is bowing out of the state’s public service after a meritorious career.
In an official statement released on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed his profound gratitude to the outgoing Head of Service. The Governor praised Mr. Philips for his invaluable contributions to the administrative and infrastructural development of Ondo State, wishing him success in his future endeavors.
Driving the ‘OUR EASE’ Agenda
While congratulating the incoming bureaucratic head, Governor Aiyedatiwa charged Chief Odusanya to deploy his extensive institutional knowledge and wealth of experience to reposition the state’s workforce. He emphasized that an efficient public service remains the bedrock of his administration’s “OUR EASE” development agenda.
Prior to this landmark elevation, Chief Odusanya served as the Chairman of the Forum of Ondo State Permanent Secretaries, a position he was elected to in December 2025. His leadership within the forum was highly regarded by labor unions, with the state Trade Union Congress (TUC) previously describing him as a “highly intelligent and cerebral public servant.”
A Stellar Academic and Administrative Trajectory
Born on February 6, 1967, into the family of the late Venerable and Mrs. Emmanuel Odusanya, the new Head of Service boasts an illustrious academic and professional background.
He received his early education at St. Peter’s Primary School, Ile-Oluji, and completed his secondary education at Gboluji Anglican Grammar School in 1983. He proceeded to the Obafemi Awolowo University (then University of Ife), where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture (B. Agric.) in 1989.
Committed to continuous professional development, Chief Odusanya later obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management Studies (P.G.D.M.S.) from OAU in 1992, followed by a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Ado-Ekiti in the year 2000.
Three Decades of Public Service
Chief Odusanya’s career in the Ondo State Public Service began in September 1995. Over the last three decades, he has navigated various ministries, departments, and agencies, steadily climbing the ranks due to his administrative acumen.
In 2019, he was elevated to the rank of Permanent Secretary. Since then, he has directed affairs across several key portfolios, including:
- Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs
- Ondo State Civil Service Commission
- Ministry of Transport
- Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (his most recent posting)
He is an esteemed member of several professional institutions, holding fellowships with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (FCIPM), the Chartered Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria (FCIPAN), and the Chartered Institute of Local Government Administration (FCLA).
Chief Odusanya is happily married to Lady Oluwatoyin Odusanya, and the marriage is blessed with three children.
