WASHINGTON, D.C. — United States law enforcement agencies have disrupted a sophisticated, multi-state terrorist plot aimed at launching an explosive drone and sniper assault during a major mixed martial arts event held on the South Lawn of the White House.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed that five suspects are currently in custody, effectively neutralizing the threat days before the event took place.
The targeted event, “UFC Freedom 250,” occurred on Sunday, June 14, 2026. Staged within a massive, temporary 600-ton steel structure dubbed “The Claw,” the fights drew thousands of spectators, including high-profile attendees such as U.S. President Donald Trump—who was celebrating his 80th birthday—and Vice President JD Vance.
Inside the Foiled Plot
According to federal court affidavits and criminal complaints, the conspiracy involved a three-tiered extremist network. The plotters allegedly intended to fly drones packed with explosives directly over the crowded outdoor arena to induce a mass panic.
The group then planned to position snipers to open fire on fleeing spectators and high-value government targets as they evacuated the White House grounds.
The breakthrough in the investigation came on June 10, when local police in Knox County, Ohio, were tipped off by the mother of 19-year-old Tycen Proper. Family members informed authorities that Proper had spent $3,000 of his high school graduation money to amass a major cache of tactical gear, ballistic body armor, weapons, and thousands of rounds of ammunition. He had also abruptly quit his job to embark on what he described as a “reconnaissance mission.”
A subsequent forensic search of Proper’s iPhone uncovered deeply coordinated planning across the encrypted messaging platform Signal. Investigators revealed that the suspects initially organized via a TikTok group called “Vanguard of the Old,” an anti-government, ultra-religious cell.
Members of the group expressed a desire to “tear down and rebuild” the United States government, specifically citing frustrations with political corruption and the handling of files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Proper’s phone also contained maps of Capitol Hill and a list of federal lawmakers marked as potential targets.
Five Suspects Formally Charged
FBI Director Kash Patel announced Tuesday that the multi-agency operation successfully stopped the threat “cold” across at least 12 distinct field offices, tracking a network that may involve up to 23 individuals.
The DOJ has formally announced charges against five primary operatives arrested across four states:
- Tycen Proper (19, arrested in Ohio) – Charged with conspiracy to commit offenses against the U.S. and the attempted murder of a federal officer.
- Bryan Omar Roa (Arrested in California)
- Michael Alan Thomas (Arrested in California)
- Daniel K. Eskridge (Arrested in Kansas City, Missouri)
- Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez (Arrested in Omaha, Nebraska)
Political Fallout and Heightened Security
The revelation has quickly sparked a sharp political debate in Washington. Vice President JD Vance, appearing on Fox News, characterized the conspiracy as a highly coordinated domestic terrorist plot. Vance pointed a finger at political rhetoric from the left, demanding that his Democratic colleagues look in the mirror regarding the origins of modern political violence.
In contrast, critics of the administration argue that the presidency’s own aggressive public rhetoric continues to heighten national polarization.
Despite the underlying plot, the historic UFC card—headlined by a lightweight championship unification bout between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje—proceeded under maximum security protocols. Secret Service Director Sean Curran confirmed on social media that specialized technical teams and counter-assault units worked around the clock to secure the perimeter, ensuring the safety of the 4,300 invited guests inside the venue and tens of thousands watching via public screens at the nearby Ellipse.
