The family of Barry Dawson, a 60-year-old man tragically shot dead at his home in Stanley, County Durham, has paid heartfelt tribute to him, describing him as a “much-loved father, granddad, and partner.” Mr. Dawson was fatally shot through the downstairs window of his terraced home on Elm Street on Saturday evening.

In a statement, his family expressed their devastation: “Barry was a much-loved father, granddad, and partner who will be greatly missed. His loss leaves an enormous gap in our lives.” They are being supported by specialist family liaison officers.
Investigation Underway
Durham Police have launched an extensive murder investigation involving 35 detectives. Doorbell footage captured two individuals approaching the house—one smashing the window and another firing a single shot through the blinds before fleeing. A voice can be heard shouting, “They’ve killed me dad.”
A 37-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and remain in custody. Officers are pursuing multiple leads, including tracking the movements of a white Seat Arona (registration NA24 OJK) seen in the area on Saturday.
Superintendent Peter Carr described the incident as “frightening” for residents and thanked the community for their cooperation. Police presence in the area will remain significant as investigations continue.
