Senator David Umahi, the Minister for Works, visited the headquarters of BUA Cement in Sokoto on Thursday and urged the company’s management to lower the prices of cement in the market.
Umahi’s visit comes amidst concerns about the increase in retail prices of cement nationwide, despite agreements between the Federal Government and cement manufacturers to reduce prices to between N7,000 and N8,000.
During the visit, Umahi highlighted the Federal Government’s ongoing road construction projects, including a 372-kilometer dual carriageway from Kaduna to Sokoto State.
He emphasized the use of concrete in road construction, aligning with the government’s agenda for infrastructure development.
Umahi praised BUA Cement for maintaining cleanliness within its premises and urged the company to continue this practice.

Additionally, Senator Aminu Tambuwal commended BUA’s management for their performance and called for increased production capacity to ensure the availability of cement at affordable prices, aligning with the government’s housing agenda.
In response, BUA Cement’s Managing Director, Engineer Yusuf Binji, assured that the company’s fifth production line would significantly increase cement production, leading to a reduction in market prices.
Binji reiterated the company’s commitment to meeting the demands of the market and supporting government initiatives in the housing sector.
Umahi’s visit underscores the government’s efforts to address the rising cost of construction materials, particularly cement, and ensure affordability for citizens.
