​EDETOKUN: ORANGUN OF OKE-ILA’S EDUCATION REVOLUTION BEARS FRUIT

​OKE-ILA ORANGUN — In an era where traditional stools are often viewed strictly through the lens of cultural preservation, the Orangun of Oke-Ila, Oba Adedokun Omoniyi Abolarin, is redefining royal leadership by turning a classroom into a sanctuary for the underprivileged.

​Years after founding Abolarin College—a tuition-free, full-boarding secondary school exclusively designed for indigent children, former street hawkers, and orphans—the monarch’s visionary investment is yielding an extraordinary harvest.

​The academic fruits of this silent revolution were prominently on display during the recent convocation ceremony at Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, where six alumni of the royal-backed institution recorded stellar performances. Leading the pack was Yemisi Ojo from Eripa, who clinched a rare 4.90 cumulative grade point average in Biochemistry. She was closely followed by Adewale Adeyemi (Political Science) and Abraham Abiola (Civil Engineering), both indigenes of Oke-Ila Orangun, who bagged First Class honors. The remaining three graduates finished brilliantly with Second Class Upper degrees.

​Reflecting on the milestone, an elated Oba Abolarin noted that the feats validated his long-held conviction that socioeconomic background should never dictate a child’s destiny.

​”This day reminds us again: Greatness is possible. Happiness is possible. Even for the indigent. If we show interest. If we show commitment. If we choose to build,” the monarch expressed.

​Established in September 2014, Abolarin College operates on a radical philosophy: that poverty should be the primary criterion for admission, coupled with raw academic brilliance. Beyond offering free tuition, board, uniforms, and learning gadgets, Oba Abolarin remains a hands-on mentor, frequently stepping into classrooms to teach Government and History.

​The success at Adeleke University is only the beginning of a broader academic wave. Institutional data indicates that a fresh cohort of alumni is poised to graduate from major tertiary institutions across the country, including the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, the University of Ilorin, Lagos State University (LASU), the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Ekiti State University, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), and the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

​As these former street-side laborers and vulnerable youths step out of the shadows of deprivation into the limelight of academic excellence, Oke-Ila’s royal experiment stands as a monumental blueprint for community-driven human capital development in Nigeria.
