A 40-year-old businessman, Ogbeni Goggo, has tragically ended his life in Delta State following intense financial pressure linked to a failed business venture.
Goggo reportedly ingested a toxic substance near the Ebrumede Flyover/DSC Roundabout in the Uvwie Local Government Area. Prior to the incident on Wednesday night, he had sent distress messages to close friends and family members, stating that he was overwhelmed and tired of life.
His disappearance prompted an active search by his family after he failed to return home. The search ended in grief on Friday morning when his wife visited the Ebrumede Police Station to file a missing person report, where officers showed her a photograph of a body recovered from the roundabout. She positively identified the deceased as her husband.
Witnesses at the scene had earlier raised an alarm when Goggo collapsed and began convulsing after consuming the substance, but attempts by passersby to save him proved abortive. His remains have since been evacuated to a mortuary in Agbarho.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident. Community members and activists have expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, noting that Goggo had been married for three years. The incident has reignited concerns regarding mental health, the psychological toll of economic hardship, and the mounting pressures faced by small business owners struggling with debt.
