The House of Representatives has passed a bill for an Act aimed at increasing the salaries, allowances, and fringe benefits of judicial office holders in the country.
Under this legislation, the Chief Justice of Nigeria is set to receive a total monthly package of N5.39 million.
President Bola Tinubu submitted the executive bill to the Green Chamber on Tuesday.
According to the bill, justices of the Supreme Court, apart from the Chief Justice, will have a total package of N4.21 million per month, while the President of the Court of Appeal will receive N4.48 million monthly.
Similarly, justices of the Court of Appeal are slated to earn N3.73 million monthly. Other judicial office holders, including the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, President of the National Industrial Court, and others, will receive a total monthly package of N3.53 million.

These monthly packages encompass basic salaries and various allowances covering aspects such as car fueling and maintenance, personal assistance, hardship, entertainment, utilities, security, outfit, journal subscription, medical expenses, service allowances, restricted or forced lifestyle, dual responsibility, and legal researchers.
In addition to the total monthly package, the House also approved other regular job allowances not included in the total package.
These allowances include leave allowances, estacode per night of $2,000 where applicable, duty tour allowances where applicable, and severance gratuity of N80.78 million upon completion of tenure.
Furthermore, there is a provision for a motor vehicle loan, which must be repaid before the officer’s tenure expires.
