A major boost to Ogun State’s industrialization efforts has been sealed, with Chinese power generation giant CCETC confirming its readiness to establish a colossal power generation plant and an associated industrial park within the state. The announcement, which follows Governor Dapo Abiodun’s recent successful investment mission to China, is poised to reshape Ogun’s energy landscape and significantly enhance its status as Nigeria’s industrial hub.

The pledge was formalized at a high-level meeting between the Governor and CCETC Chairman, Mr. Guo Xianda, in Abeokuta over the weekend. Crucially, the Jiangsu-based firm demonstrated its commitment by pledging to immediately install a 3-megawatt (3MW) power plant at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport in Iperu-Ilishan, entirely free of charge. This gesture is intended to accelerate economic activities and logistics operations at the burgeoning arena.

Strategic Investment Focus
Mr. Guo Xianda highlighted that the group’s interest in Ogun State is a strategic expansion of its substantial operations in Nigeria and Africa, where it currently manages over 250MW of operational projects and possesses an overall capacity in excess of 5,000MW for distribution.
The company’s investment strategy for Ogun State is built around three fundamental areas of intervention, aimed at creating a self-sufficient energy ecosystem that supports massive industrial growth:
1.Strengthening Power Generation and Distribution: The core focus remains on bolstering the state’s capacity to generate and reliably distribute electricity to both industrial and residential areas.
2.Dedicated Transmission Network Investment: CCETC plans to invest in a dedicated state transmission network, a critical step toward ensuring stable and efficient power evacuation.
3.Establishment of an Integrated Industrial Park: The firm will establish an industrial park designed to specifically attract more Chinese manufacturers to Ogun State, with power projects integrated from the outset to guarantee a reliable energy supply for all tenants.

Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed profound gratitude for the strategic investment, noting that the partnership is a direct result of his administration’s targeted global investment drive. He emphasized that reliable energy is the bedrock for sustained industrial growth.

In a move to ensure the new investors fully grasp the state’s existing infrastructure and opportunities, the Governor is scheduled to lead the CCETC team on an inspection tour of ongoing distribution infrastructure and power projects currently being executed by firms like Sahara and Powergen across the state
