IJEBU-ODE, OGUN STATE — The serene community of Oke Eri in Ijebu-Ode was thrown into mourning and confusion on Thursday night, March 19, 2026, following the brutal assassination of a prominent cleric, Prophet Aliyu Samson.
Prophet Samson, a well-known member of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), was reportedly cornered and killed by unknown assailants at his recently completed residence. The incident occurred late in the evening, leaving residents in a state of shock as the news of the “gentle” prophet’s demise spread.
The Investigation
Preliminary reports from the Ogun State Police Command suggest the motive behind the killing may be far more complex than a random robbery. Investigators are currently following a lead that suggests the cleric was embroiled in a bitter dispute involving “items” related to internet fraud, colloquially known as “Yahoo-Yahoo.”

While the exact nature of the relationship remains unclear, sources indicate that the attackers may have been disgruntled over a failed transaction or “ripping” (withholding proceeds) involving cyber-fraudsters.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Atan Division, CSP Gbadamosi, confirmed the incident and assured the public that the command is leaving no stone unturned.
”We are treating this matter with the highest level of priority,” Gbadamosi stated. “Our team is gathering evidence and working to track down the perpetrators. We urge the community to remain calm and refrain from spreading unconfirmed reports that could incite further violence or jeopardize the investigation.”
To those who knew him closely, the allegations of an association with the underworld are difficult to reconcile with his public persona. Friends and congregants described Prophet Samson as an “easy-going gentleman” and a dedicated man of God.
However, the incident has sparked a heated debate within the community and on social media regarding the increasing intersection between some religious figures and individuals involved in cybercrime.
The Ogun State Police Command has reiterated the need for community cooperation. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious movements or information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects involved in the Thursday night attack.
As of press time, no arrests have been made, but security presence has been beefed up in the Oke Eri axis to prevent any reprisal attacks or breakdown of law and order.
