Cantwell optimistic about partnership with Dessers as Rangers aim for success

Todd Cantwell, the Scottish midfielder and former Norwich player, is optimistic about the partnership he shares with Cyriel Dessers and hopes it can contribute to Glasgow Rangers’ success as they approach the end of the 2023/24 season.

Dessers, who initially had a slow start after joining Rangers from Cremonese in Italy last summer, has now become a fan favorite.

His recent impressive performance includes scoring a brace in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup against Hearts, securing a spot for Rangers in the final against Celtic United.

Despite scoring only three goals in his first 20 matches, Dessers has now tallied 19 goals and eight assists, significantly contributing to Rangers’ pursuit of league and cup titles.

With just five league games remaining in the season, Rangers are currently three points behind Celtic.

Cantwell believes that the synergy he shares with Dessers, combined with the latter’s excellent form, can help Rangers clinch titles as they enter the crucial phase of the season.

Cantwell expressed confidence in their partnership, stating, “From one of his first training sessions, I think we realised we would be on the same page.

Hopefully, we can get a bit of a run together now until the end of the season and get some goals and assists.”

Despite Dessers’ underwhelming performance in the previous season with Cremonese, where he scored only 10 goals in 32 games across all competitions, Rangers saw potential in him and acquired him for £4.5m after Cremonese’s relegation.

Now, Dessers has become a key player under Philippe Clement’s management and is expected to feature in all six remaining matches of the season, barring any injuries.
