NAPTIP used the occasion to restate its commitment to fighting human trafficking and shielding vulnerable people, especially children, from sexual abuse and exploitation .

WHY IT MATTERS

The conviction represents a rare case of accountability in a country where human trafficking and sexual exploitation often go unpunished. It sends a message that those who procure minors for sexual exploitation will face the full weight of the law.

For the 16-year-old victim, the compensation and the conviction are small measures of justice. For other potential victims and perpetrators, the message is clear: the law will pursue you.
