This will surely ignite the curiosity and disdain of many who have seen and relayed the recent developments in our political landscape from a different perspective from this. It is possible that this category of people are in the majority. However, regardless of how loud their wild and wide condemnations of the Vice- President, my conclusion after the primary of the APC was that this man certainly loves this country more than himself. His love for his beloved country and his commitment to service apparently masked him from the reality. He is certainly not meant for that world! His mien, audacity , tenacity and conviction is one that is not common around us and cannot be reasonable to most of us.
Before someone fires the salvo. Yes, I am a member of RCCG like our dear PYO. However, I do not know him in person or anyone close to him or have any direct or indirect connection with any of his political groups or managers.
I have always believed that PYO and BAT will not go into a contest. I have held this belief since the idea of both of them being interested began to filter in. I was almost thinking that both of them were playing games with us How I wish I have some of the recordings. When it became crystal clear that BAT was not stepping down and there was no game involving the duo, I had shared with some friends that PYO would step down. Alas, this was not to be! Many uncharitable words have been used to describe this position of the VP and normally our milky political terrain is home to all forms of aspersions.
Going forward, despite the immense pressure on him and his person, our dear PYO remained calm and unperturbed. I am happy that no single filthy political jargons was credited to him. He conducted himself as a man of honour who did not allow the exigencies of the moment to steal away his principles. He must have been under intense pressure both from within and outside his camp both for and against and is the only one that knows the conviction within him. People like that are rare! I think I have him as a second person on my list of rare species of human being.
Has PYO committed any sin against the land? NO. He has only followed his mind. Does he has anything to lose? Except if he wants to lose a thought on it. He has been privileged to be the most outstanding Vice-president in the annals of our chequered history. He may not be political but he was not lacking in character and vision.
Rather than being worried about the actions and inactions of PYO, I think it is better for the gladiators, social media wizards and their allies to begin to move forward. I am constrained to say that if PYO had emerged, many of these people would have been commending him and propounding a different narrative. It is high time we moved forward. PYO, a sound and astute Professor of Law has made himself available and the system has rejected him. We can only pray and hope that the system and its structures will get better such that we would not have to chastise ourselves for the condemnations of today.
Finally, the burden is no longer on PYO. He can always begin a new life. Expectedly, he would mend fences and timely too. Hopefully, the fences will also allow for the mending operations.
