The Nigerian Army has confirmed that Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Saidu Paiko, Commanding Officer of the 202 Tank Battalion, was killed alongside several soldiers during a fierce encounter with Boko Haram terrorists on October 17, 2025, in Bama Local Government Area, Borno State. The encounter occurred around the Kashimri general area and involved troops of the Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI under the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, who foiled a planned Boko Haram attack.
Despite the loss of Lt. Col. Paiko and some valiant soldiers who paid the supreme price, the troops neutralized several terrorists during the gunfight, with others fleeing the scene injured. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased, praising them as courageous fathers, brothers, and sons, affirming the army’s unyielding resolve to eliminate terrorism from Nigeria.
The Nigerian Army remains committed to honoring the sacrifices of its fallen heroes, continuing to combat the insurgency despite the heavy toll it takes on personnel. The military’s action in this attack underscores ongoing efforts to confront Boko Haram terror threats in the northeast region .
