Appeal Court Verdict, A Temporary setback’ – Gov Mutfwang

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has described the verdict of the Court of Appeal that nullified his election as a “temporary setback” that will not deter him from repositioning the state.

Delivering judgment on Sunday, a three-member panel of the court led by Elfrieda Williams-Dawodu held that Mutfwang was not validly sponsored by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the election.

The court while dismissing the decision of the Plateau state election petition tribunal held that the issue of qualification is both a pre-election and a post-election matter contrary to the findings of the panel which held that the appellant lacked the locus to contest the validity of the respondent.

Reacting to the judgement, Mutfwang, in a press statement signed by his Director Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, admonished citizens of the state and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to remain calm.

The governor expressed strong optimism that the mandate overwhelmingly given to him by the citizens would be restored, as he has instructed his legal team to proceed to the Supreme Court.

He assured them that “as long as God remains on the throne, the mandate of the people will be preserved and protected”.

The governor reiterated his commitment to the rule of law, while assuring the people that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“We have unwavering faith in the judiciary and the Constitution of Nigeria,” he stressed.
