…..APC kicks, says it’s a ploy to dent his image
The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has summoned the immediate past governor of the state, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for interrogation over a controversial dollar video.
In 2018, a video of Ganduje allegedly receiving bundles of dollars from contractors, which he stuffed into his “babanriga”, a traditional outfit had gone viral.
The former governor was alleged then to have requested $5 million as a bribe from the contractors who recorded the video.
In a statement on Thursday, Kabir Abba Kabir, spokesperson for the commission, quoted the agency’s chairman, Magaji Rimingado, as saying that Ganduje is expected to appear before the commission next week.
“I just signed an invitation letter for him (Ganduje) to appear next week because this is what the law says,” he said.
However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state told Ganduje to disregard the invitation by the anti-graft commission, saying the probe is a politically motivated by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) administration in the state.
In a statement on Thursday co-signed by the Chairman of the party in Kano, Abdulahi Abbas; and APC Secretary, Zakari Sarina, the party said the matter is before a court of law, and there is “a sinister ploy to dent the image of the former governor”.
“The detractors are engaged in this campaign of calumny to draw a wedge between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ganduje, one of the President’s strongest allies in the North,” the APC in Kano said.
