Police operatives from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Aguata conducted a routine visibility patrol in the Isulo area of Orumba South Local Government Area, Anambra State, on January 15, 2026, leading to the rescue of a kidnapped Nigerian. The victim, a native of Obinagu-Isikweachi in Oji River LGA, Enugu State, but residing in South Africa, had been abducted by six masked armed men from his hometown on January 1, 2026. He escaped his captors’ den on his own before encountering the security team.
Incident Details
Kidnappers demanded ₦40 million ransom from the victim’s wife and relatives, holding him for nearly two weeks in a hideout within Orumba South. The early morning patrol highlighted ongoing proactive measures by Anambra police amid rising kidnapping threats in the region. This rescue aligns with the command’s 2025 record of freeing 35 victims through intelligence-driven operations across multiple LGAs.
Victim’s Rescue and Aftermath
Post-rescue, the victim received a full debriefing and reunited with his family unharmed. He provided actionable intelligence to aid the joint team—comprising police, army, navy, DSS, NSCDC, and others—in locating the kidnappers’ den and pursuing arrests. No arrests reported yet, but operations continue to dismantle the gang.
Broader Security Context
Anambra Police Command, under CP Ikioye Orutugu, emphasizes sustained patrols and community collaboration, building on last year’s successes like seizing over 2,000 arms and disrupting syndicates. Recent incidents, including robberies and trafficking busts in early 2026, underscore persistent challenges in areas like Orumba and Aguata. Further updates expected from SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
