A joint security team in Anambra State has intercepted two vehicles and arrested nine suspects, including two females, during a rigorous stop-and-search operation in the Isuofia community of Aguata Local Government Area.
The early morning operation, executed on August 28, 2026, was spearheaded by the Joint Operation Base in Aguata under the command of CSP Austin Elaigwu. The inter-agency task force comprised personnel from the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Agunechemba Security Outfit.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu Anthony, the security operatives intercepted a custom-coloured Sienna and an ash-coloured Toyota RAV4 at a security checkpoint. A subsequent search of the automobiles yielded three AK-47 rifles, a pump-action gun, a cache of charms, and other incriminating materials.
Initial interrogations revealed that the nine occupants claimed to be security personnel attached to a neighboring state. However, they failed to present valid credentials, verifiable institutional affiliations, or a credible justification for moving heavily armed through the area.
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, lauded the operatives for their prompt response and vigilance, attributing the breakthrough to robust intelligence-driven policing. All suspects and the recovered exhibits have been transferred to custody as comprehensive investigations continue to unravel their true identities and mission.
