Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has initiated legal action against the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, for defamation of character.
The lawsuit was filed in an Oyo State High Court in Ibadan under the case number I/406/2024.
The legal action follows Igboho’s objection to a viral voice note in which Adams allegedly accused him of being involved in an assassination plot.
In the voice note, Adams purportedly claimed that Igboho was paid by the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, for the alleged operation.

In response, Igboho’s legal team demanded a retraction and apology from Adams.
However, since no response was received, Igboho proceeded with the legal action.
The writ of summon presented by Igboho outlines several requests, including:
- Declaration that the content of the audio clip between Adams and a third party, Nuru Banjo, published on various media platforms, including YouTube, is slanderous, libelous, and defamatory.
- Order for Adams to publicly retract the defamatory content and engage media platforms to remove it.
- Order for Adams to tender an unreserved apology to Igboho in five national newspapers in Nigeria.
- Perpetual restraint on Adams from further defaming Igboho.
- Payment of exemplary and aggravated damages in the sum of N500,000,000 to Igboho for defamation.
- Cost of litigation amounting to N10 million.
The case seeks to address the alleged defamation and restore Igboho’s reputation, while also seeking punitive damages for the harm caused.
