The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has sentenced 50-year-old Adjoto Olumuyiwa to life imprisonment for the defilement of a six-year-old girl. Delivering the judgment on January 19, 2026, Justice Rahman Oshodi found the defendant guilty of two out of the three counts brought against him by the Lagos State Government.
The harrowing incident occurred on April 22, 2022, in the Badagry area of Lagos. The court heard that the victim, the grandchild of the convict’s second wife’s younger sister, was staying with the family on holiday. While the convict’s wife, Mrs. Olayemi, was at the market, Adjoto cornered the child while she was doing her homework. He forced himself on her, physically assaulted her when she screamed, and later attempted to conceal the crime by cleaning her up and ordering her to play outside.
The crime came to light later that evening when Mrs. Olayemi noticed the child recoiling in fear from Adjoto. Under the guise of attending a church vigil, she rushed the girl to the General Hospital, Badagry, where medical examinations confirmed the assault.
During the trial, the prosecution team—led by Inumidun Sholarin, I.E. Balogun, and B.E. Okeowo—presented evidence from the victim’s relative, the Investigating Police Officer (ASP Adeniyi), and medical experts from the Mirabel Centre. Although the defense counsel, Philip Imuetinyan, pleaded for mercy, Justice Oshodi emphasized the gravity of the offense.
The judge sentenced Adjoto to concurrent life terms for defilement and sexual assault by penetration, further ordering that his name be entered into the Lagos State Sexual Offenders Register to serve as a public deterrent.
