Adeleke Rallies Osun Voters,Warns Against Return to Halved Salaries

​OSOGBO — Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared that the recent political and financial turbulence surrounding the state’s accounts has only strengthened the resolve of the electorate to resist a return to economic hardship.

​Speaking against the backdrop of heightened pre-election tensions ahead of the August 15 governorship poll, Governor Adeleke fiercely cautioned the citizenry against allowing the All Progressives Congress (APC) to reclaim power, painting a grim picture of past administrations characterized by systemic neglect and fiscal distress.

​“We will not allow the APC to take Osun back to the days when civil servants had to beg their neighbours for food,” Governor Adeleke asserted. “I call on the good people of Osun State to brace up for just a few more days.”

​The governor accused the opposition of previously weaponizing poverty through the implementation of half-salaries, which left public servants struggling to feed their families and stripped ordinary citizens of basic amenities. He framed the upcoming election as a definitive battle for the soul and economic survival of the state.

​“Those who once weaponised poverty… are desperate to return to inflict more pain. We must never go back to those dark days. On August 15, I urge every eligible voter to send a clear and resounding message that Osun has chosen the path of progress, compassion, and good governance,” he stated.

​Highlighting his administration’s track record, Adeleke maintained that worker welfare has remained a paramount priority since he assumed office, contrasting his governance style with what he termed the opposition’s inherent disdain for the civil service.

​The fiery remarks follow intense political and institutional drama after a brief freezing of state accounts by anti-graft authorities—a move the state government vehemently contested as politically motivated before interventions to vacate the restriction. Dismissing the episode as an attempt to truncate democratic stability, Adeleke expressed absolute confidence that the development would backfire on its orchestrators by galvanizing voters.
